nepal forum in akron

Nepalese Students Association of The University of Akron in collaboration with Nepali American Organization of Ohio (NAOO), hosted a panel to discuss the current political, social, and economical condition in Nepal. The former deputy prime minister and finance minister Mr. Bharat Mohan Adhikari was the chief guest on the occasion.

Mr. Adhikari enlightened the audience that included students at the University of Akron, Kent State University, and other Nepali citizens in Ohio about the ongoing movement to restore democracy in Nepal. He informed the audience that the present movement has gained unprecedented international support, and that the seven-party alliance is doing everything to get support from Nepali citizen residing in different parts of the world. He also said that the various moves of present government are detriment to the democracy and everything gained since the restoration of democracy in 1990. According to Mr. Adhikari that unfortunate decisions taken by the present government is turning the clock back to pre-1990 era.

He also informed that he was very excited to learn that there is an overwhelming support towards the ongoing movements by the seven-part alliance.

During the occasion Amod Pyakuryal of Nepalese Student Association, Anand Tiwari, president of Association of Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA) and Govind Paudel of NAOO also spoke. They collectively expressed that Nepalis in the US are also very concerned about the political and social turmoil in Nepal, and wished peaceful restoration of democracy and human rights in Nepal.

Yadav Pandit, student at Kent State University, spoke of the ongoing student movement in Nepal. Rudra Aryal of Nepalese Student Association moderated the event.

Nepal Forum was held at Student Union, University of Akron on October 02, 2005, Sunday.
