Hope everyone had a nice tihar.

Just wanted to update you on last Saturday’s (November 10, 2007) event organized by FICA and Bharathi Cultural Society. The event was very well put together and well attended. There were close to 800 attendees including 40 of us - NAOO members. Unfortunately some of our friends could not attend the whole event due to schedule conflict; still, they drove a long way knowing that they could not be there the entire time. Thank you. It was a real nice gesture. Others sent in donations but could not attend the program in person.

It was very touching to hear and see how well Nepal was projected by various people at the event. Sarayu Ramanan, the young lady behind this initiative, and Jugnu Shrestha, daughter of Muna and Krishna Shrestha from Cleveland , eloquently described their experiences as volunteers in Nepal last summer. It was, in fact, a nice opportunity for our own children and youth to see the value of commitment and giving. And that small initiative can lead to big things.

Thanks to your generosity and participation, we are able to donate a significant amount to the cause on behalf of NAOO. we are doing the accounting from donations that are still coming in and from t-shirt sale. The total amount is most likely to be between $700-800. In addition, it was also a good fund raising event for NAOO as well, since a portion of proceeds from t shirts went to NAOO.

Most importantly this event gave us an opportunity to show that Nepali community in Ohio is strong and committed despite being small in size. I hope we can build on this experience to initiate and facilitate more meaningful and constructive work for the community here in Ohio as well as for needy people in Nepal.

Again thank you for all of you who attended the program, donated for the cause on behalf of NAOO, and helped out on Saturday.
